4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 BMS Battery Protection Board
4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 Battery Management System BMS with Balance is a battery protection and management board designed for 4-cell series LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs. It is suitable for building and protecting 12.8V-class LFP battery packs where reliable current control and cell-level protection are required.
A 4S LiFePO4 battery configuration consists of four 3.2V nominal cells connected in series, resulting in a nominal pack voltage of approximately 12.8V. 4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 BMS Battery Protection Board The BMS continuously monitors the battery pack and individual cell conditions through its balance/sensing connections and controls the charge and discharge path when a protection condition is detected.
The 30A current rating makes this BMS suitable for medium-current battery applications. 4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 BMS Battery Protection Board Depending on the particular BMS design, the board may support up to 30A continuous discharge and may also have a specified charging-current limit.4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 Battery Management The exact charging and peak-current limits should always be verified against the particular PCB/model being supplied. Different 4S 30A boards have different protection thresholds and charge specifications.
LiFePO4 Battery Compatibility
This BMS is specifically intended for LiFePO4/LFP chemistry. 4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 Battery Management It should not be treated as interchangeable with a standard 4S Li-ion BMS because LiFePO4 cells have different voltage characteristics and charging requirements.
For a typical 4S LFP pack, the four cells are connected in series:
Cell 1 â Cell 2 â Cell 3 â Cell 4
The BMS uses the cell connections to monitor the individual cell voltages and provide protection during charging and discharging.
Cell Balancing
The balance version of the BMS includes a cell-balancing function. Balancing helps reduce voltage differences between cells during charging so that one cell does not become significantly higher or lower than the others.
This is particularly useful in multi-cell battery packs because individual cells can gradually develop different voltage characteristics during repeated charge/discharge cycles. A balance circuit helps maintain better cell-to-cell consistency.
Note: Some products sold as â4S 30A LFP BMSâ do not include balancing, while others do. Therefore, the product should be listed as âwith Balanceâ only if the actual board has a balancing circuit.
Overcharge Protection
The BMS monitors individual cell voltage during charging. 4S 30A LFP LiFePO4 BMS Battery Protection Board If a cell reaches the board’s specified overcharge protection threshold, the BMS can disconnect or control the charging path to help prevent continued charging beyond the permitted level.
The exact cutoff and release voltage depend on the BMS model and should be taken from the manufacturer’s specification rather than assumed from the generic â4S 30Aâ name. For example, published 4S LFP boards use different thresholds.
Over-Discharge Protection
The BMS also protects the battery against excessive discharge. When a cell falls below the specified low-voltage threshold, the BMS can disconnect the discharge path.
This protection helps prevent individual LFP cells from being excessively discharged, which can negatively affect battery performance and service life.
Overcurrent Protection
The 30A BMS is designed for applications requiring substantial current while providing protection against excessive current conditions. If the current exceeds the board’s specified protection threshold, the BMS can disconnect the output to protect the battery and protection circuitry.
The 30A figure should be treated as the rated continuous operating current of the particular board, not as a guaranteed current for every application. Wiring, MOSFET temperature, enclosure ventilation, battery-cell capability and load conditions can affect practical performance.
Short-Circuit Protection
Many 4S 30A LFP BMS designs also include short-circuit protection. When an abnormal short-circuit condition is detected, the protection circuit can disconnect the battery output. Published 4S 30A LFP models list short-circuit protection among their protection functions.
